DSPD Scorecard

The vision of the Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) is to promote opportunities and provide supports for people with disabilities to lead self-determined lives.

DSPD serves individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, or physical disabilities throughout Utah. The known population of DSPD includes all of the individuals receiving ongoing services as well as the individuals who are waiting for ongoing funding. However, DSPD also recognizes that there is a much larger population that could benefit from disability services, but have not yet officially been counted. This strategic RBA plan is aimed at ensuring ALL Utahns who qualify for DSPD services are able to be supported as their situation and needs change. There are 5 Medicaid waivers operated through DSPD, which provide a wide array of services for individuals with disabilities. These services include everything from respite services and in-home behavior support, up to 24-hour residential support in a group home. The services that an individual receives depend on the specific needs of that person and are put in place by the person-centered support team. These support plans are put in place to promote opportunities and provide supports for people with disabilities to lead self-determined lives, which is also the mission of the organization. DSPD partners with many organizations within Utah including contracted providers and support coordinators, the University of Utah, Utah State University, and the Utah Parent Center, among others. DSPD is also part of several national organizations including SELN, NASDDDS, and the National Core Indicators.

Additionally, DSPD oversees the one state run Intermediate Care Facility. Individuals with high behavior needs who are a risk to themselves or the community are able to go to the Utah State Developmental Center (USDC) to receive intensive services for both long term placement, or short term stabilization.
