Utah Home Visiting Program
Free parenting support for pregnant women and families with young children.

Resources for parents

What is the home visiting program?

The Utah Home Visiting Program gives you free support during pregnancy and early childhood. You’ll meet with a trained professional—called a home visitor—in a place that’s comfortable for you.

They’ll help you:

  • Feel more confident as a parent.
  • Learn about your child’s growth and development.
  • Get answers to everyday parenting questions.
  • Connect you to services in your community.

Who can join?

You may qualify for the program if:

  You live in Utah.

You’re pregnant or have a child younger than age 5.

  You meet the income guidelines.

You live in an area where a local home visiting agency offers services.

You want to learn more about parenting or get support.

Not sure if you qualify or if the home visiting program is right for you? That’s okay—we’ll help you find out. You don’t need to know everything to reach out.

What can you get help with?

Home visitors can help you learn more about:

  • Child development and milestones.
  • Sleep routines, feeding, and toilet training.
  • How to bond and play with your child.
  • Home safety.
  • Easy ways to deal with stress or parenting challenges.
  • Other helpful services near you.

Home visitors provide expert tips and support based on your needs, your child’s age, and your goals.

What types of programs are available?

We work with trusted programs that have helped families nationwide:

  • Nurse-Family Partnership: For first-time moms. Start in pregnancy and get help until your child turns 2.
  • Parents as Teachers: For families with children from birth to age 5.
  • Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP): For parents or caregivers with children from birth to age 8.
  • Family Spirit: For American Indian families. Focuses on parent and child well-being from birth to age 3.
  • SafeCare: For parents of children birth through 5, to help them create a safe home environment.

We’ll help match you with the program that is right for your family.

How much does it cost?

Home visiting programs are free for families who qualify. You’ll never be charged for home visits or support.

What happens during a home visit?

Home visits are:

  • Private conversations with a nurse or trained professional.
  • All home visitors are background-checked.
  • Home visits usually happen 2 times each month, depending on your family’s needs.
  • Each home visit is about 60 to 90 minutes long.
  • You can meet in your home, a park, or anywhere you feel comfortable.

Open to your whole family—grandparents, siblings, or anyone who helps care for your child.
