We are pleased to announce that Dr. Stacey Bank has been appointed as the new executive medical director for DHHS, effective November 4, 2024.
Dr. Bank, MD, is a board-certified family physician with over 20 years of experience. She has a strong background in primary care and a deep commitment to serving diverse populations. As a skilled physician leader, Dr. Bank brings a wealth of leadership expertise to her role, driven by a dedication to improving health outcomes for all Utahns. From 2022-2024, she served on the Salt Lake County Board of Health.
Dr. Bank was most recently a physician lead at Sacred Circle Healthcare and before that was the medical director at the University of Utah Intensive Outpatient Clinic. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Dr. Bank completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Utah and earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Throughout her career, she has consistently championed healthcare access, focusing on the needs of vulnerable populations and addressing disparities in healthcare delivery.
In her new role, Dr. Bank is excited to engage in community outreach across the state, assess the health needs of Utah’s diverse communities, and advocate for all populations. Her goal is to foster collaboration, improve health and wellness, and strengthen the public health infrastructure across Utah.
Dr. Bank is taking over the post of executive medical director from Dr. Michelle Hofmann, who will continue to work with the department advising Correctional Health Services for the next 6 months.
Dr. Hofmann was recently appointed as Interim Senior Associate Dean for University of Utah Health’s new St. George Regional Medical Campus of the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. In this role, she will develop relationships with regional health systems, community clinics, and other entities to prepare for an exceptional student experience.
“Dr. Stacey Bank brings to DHHS a wealth of experience, both as a physician and as a public health practitioner. We welcome her to the DHHS family,” said DHHS Executive Director Tracy Gruber. “We also want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Michelle Hofmann for her invaluable contributions to our department throughout the pandemic response, during our merger, and during her time as executive medical director.”
Dr. Hofmann joined DHHS during the state’s pandemic response and has helped us navigate challenging times. Her commitment and hard work have been instrumental in our department’s achievements, and we are grateful for her outstanding efforts.
