SNAP unavailability impact on Utah WIC families

Josh LoftinFeatured News

The Department of Workforce Services has announced that SNAP benefits will not be paid in November due to the government shutdown.

As of today, WIC operations and shopping have not been interrupted and will continue to be available into November. WIC offices remain open and ready to help. The costs of WIC benefits are currently covered with contingency funds issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The loss of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits can have a significant impact on families who also rely on WIC (Women, Infants and Children) for nutrition support. Many families who participate in the WIC program receive monthly SNAP benefits to meet their nutritional needs. While WIC provides targeted supplemental support such as specific healthy foods, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support, it does not cover the same broad grocery needs as the SNAP program.

Any updates regarding WIC will be provided to WIC clients on the WIC Shopper app, Utah WIC website, and through text messages.
